JLGA Bayou
Certified Programs
The
main focus of the JLGA is &
always will be the youth & their
goat project.
In keeping with this
focus, the JLGA is proud to announce
there are now
2 programs that
goats can be "Bayou Certified" under.
#1 - JLGA "Bred & Born in the Bayou State" Breeder Program: This program is for youth or adult breeders who choose to become JLGA Breeder Members & Bayou Certify their qualifying goats before they leave their farm or ranch. Complete information regarding rules & qualifications for the JLGA Breeder Program can be found below. You can also find a complete list of Bayou Certified Breeders below the JLGA Bayou Certified Exhibitors Program information.
#2 - JLGA "Bayou Exhibitors" Program: This program is for purchased goats only. Exhibitors who have purchased goats that meet all the qualifications of being "Bred & Born in the Bayou State" except for the fact at the time of purchase, the breeder was not a Breeder Member of the JLGA Breeder Program.
Through parents & exhibitors, the JLGA was made aware that some kids are showing goats that qualify for Bayou Bred Status, but the Breeder was not a JLGA Breeder Member at time goat was purchased. The JLGA "Bayou Exhibitors" Program was formed to include these youth who wish to participate. (Complete information regarding rules & qualifications for the JLGA Bayou Exhibitors Program can be found further down on this page.
If you have questions or would like to know which program your goats qualify for, please contact Cynthia Hailey at boeredsillygoatranch@hotmail.com or by phone at 318-992-4168 (If no answer, please leave a message & your call will be returned as soon as possible.)

JLGA "Bred & Born in the BAYOu
state"
Breeder ProgrAM
|
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
|
What is the
JLGA |
It is an EXCLUSIVE JLGA Breeder Program where JLGA Breeder Members (providing they meet ALL program requirements) can have their goats "Bayou Certified" thus making them eligible to compete for additional awards at JLGA sponsored shows. The JLGA "Bred & Born in the Bayou State" Breeder Program is solely owned by the JLGA & any part or in whole cannot be used without written permission form the Junior Louisiana Goat Association (JLGA). |
| Why was the JLGA Breeder Program started? |
This program was first started for the purpose of recognizing qualifying AOB goats in JLGA sponsored shows. There are certain breeds of goats whom for show purposes in their respective sanctioned breed shows are not ear tagged. Also there are the LaMancha Goats that have hardly no ear at all. The JLGA believes that ALL Louisiana Breeders, both youth & adult alike, regardless of the breed(s) of goats they choose to raise in our state, should be able to be recognized as such. |
| Can goats other than AOBs participate? |
YES. Although it was started for the AOB breeds, it is open to ALL breeds including Boers - full bloods, percentages - market - commercial does. |
| Is this program for youth breeders only? |
NO. Due to the fact that some youth purchase their goats, rather than raising their own, the JLGA Breeder Program is open to ALL Louisiana Adult Breeders (providing they meet ALL program requirements) as well in order to give these youth an opportunity to compete for "Bayou Certified" awards. |
| What is the JLGA "Bayou Certified" Exhibitor Program? |
Through input from parents & youth alike it was brought to the attention of the JLGA Governing Body that some youth were showing goats that were eligible to be Bayou Certified, but the original breeder may not have been a member at the time that goat was purchased. This program was started to includes those youth. Youth may have their goats Bayou Certified without going through the original breeders providing all qualifications of the Bayou Certified Program are met. |
| Are "Bayou Certified"
goats ear tagged with a special tag? |
YES & NO.
All Goats that are Bayou Certified
are issued a Bayou Certified tag
specific to that goat with all
their pertinent information on the
back of their tags. TAGS ARE
NOT TRANSFERABLE BETWEEN GOATS. NEW
FOR 2010 - BREEDING GOAT CLASSES
WILL BE GOING TO A CARD SYSTEM
FOR BAYOU CERTIFICATION - FOR THE
TIME BEING IN ORDER TO USE UP
TAGS, WETHERS & COMMERCIAL DOES
WILL CONTINUE TO BE ISSUED THE
PURPLE BAYOU CERTIFIED TAGS. It is up to the owner whether or not they place that tag in the goat's ear. However, at all JLGA shows they are competing in for Bayou Certified awards, if they choose not to punch the tag through the ear, the tag must be attached to the collar in plain sight or exhibitor must have tag in pocket & ready to be presented upon request from ring or show personnel. In the event a tag is lost, a re-placement tag must be purchased to continue competing for Bayou Certified Awards. Replacement tags are $10. each. Once there has been a request made for a replacement tag, the original tag number reported lost is voided & no longer valid. |
| What are the breeders fees for the JLGA "Bred & Born in the Bayou State" Breeder Program? |
YOUTH: $25.00 per year
(includes $20.00 JLGA membership - JLGA
Breeder Memberships are not sold separately!) ADULT: $30.00 per year CERTIFICATION FEES: $10.00 per goat. |
| Where do my breeder & certification fees go? |
ALL Breeder Memberships (including both youth & adult) & ALL Bayou certification fees go right back to the youth. These funds are set aside to help with the cost of "Bayou Certified" awards & premiums given at JLGA sponsored shows to "Bayou Certified" goats. |
| What JLGA "Bred &
Born in the Bayou State"
herd books are currently open for JLGA Breeder members? |
AOB BUCKS - AOB DOES - COMMERCIAL DOES - DAIRY BUCKS - DAIRY DOES - FULL BLOOD BUCKS - FULL BLOOD DOES - PERCENTAGE DOES - MARKET GOATS - PYGMY WETHERS (NEW FOR 2010) |
